True purity and holiness is first recognizing and then accepting your own places of darkness. Once you have arrived at that place of honesty, you then are on the path to true enlightenment. And in the process true purity comes when you can look superficial filth in the face and your heart remains pure and ultimately desiring of good because it is the honest desire of your heart to seek truth and light. You can only be offended by graphic reality if you allow yourself to be – if it offends you, it means you have not discovered yet for yourself which path you ultimately seek. Offense comes from fear, you feel fear when you see filth because you are afraid it is appealing to you and that you will be overtaken by its lure. If you are to be overtaken by it's lure, you will be anyway, if you are not, you won't – so never live right out of fear of consequence if you don't. You are getting nowhere by doing the right thing with the wrong motivations. Act. Act freely. This will reward you true progression.
